Friday night Wyatt's team played the Scrappers. It was a nail-biter game, going back and forth every inning. Batting practice must have helped because bats were swinging and balls were flying.
This picture is Coach Pearson giving the "hit the ball - don't go for high pitches" pep talk before he stepped up to the plate.
He tried to bunt, but sent it sailing up and hit the back stop just above where I was standing.
Now, back to business. . . the next two pitches were balls, then a strike, then two more balls (possibly not in that exact order -- but the result was the same) sending him to first base with a walk.
This is his favorite part of the game, stealing bases. He headed for second with no problem. This picture makes it look like he might go for a trip over the bag, but he stopped safe on second.
This is one of the dance steps between 2nd and 3rd:
And then it is the bottom of the last inning. Hooks are ahead by 2. All they have to do is hold them and they win the game. So what is their strategy? They bring in:
THE CLOSER!!
Most games they bring Wyatt in to pitch at the end of the game. Sometimes just the last inning, sometimes in the middle of the second to last inning. More times than not, the bases are loaded and we are ahead or behind by only a point or two. All of the parents on the bleachers have started calling him "The Closer." He usually does a pretty good job. He pitches a little slower than the other kids, but in a way I think that may give him an advantage because they aren't expecting the off speed pitches.
Here he is focusing in before the pitch.
He did his job. They didn't score a run and the Hooks won by 2. I think the final score was 9-7. They play this same team again on Tuesday night. Hopefully they will win again. The only have two more regular season games and then the tournament starts. It would be really good to go into the tournament with some wins at the end of the season.
After the game I was scheduled to work in the concession stand. You can either work it, or you can hire a teenager to work it for you. The catch is that only one teenager can be in there at one time. I was going to have Cody work it for me but one of the other moms had already hired someone to work for her. When she found out that Cody wanted to work she asked the girl that was working for her if Cody could work half of it. So, he worked in the concession stand with me for the last hour and made $10.
Here we are selling candy, hot dogs, snow cones, etc. Looks like we are have a great time, doesn't it?
I'm going call this next picture "Stone-cold Cody". The boy doesn't like to smile for a photo.
Hey! Look at this one . . . I caught him cleaning!!! With 409!!! He really did a good job and jumped right in to help us clean and close up.
Well, that's it for now. I'll try to keep ya'll updated on the games coming up this week.
See ya!
